For Parents & Caregivers:

Matt is proud to offer training in Collaborative Problem Solving for parents and caregivers!

Collaborative Problem Solving CertificationTraditional models of discipline have used consequences and rewards to improve negative behaviors in children. While this may be effective for new behaviors, it does not improve behavior concerns that have been ongoing.  Alternatively, Collaborative Problem Solving is an evidence-based approach that promotes the philosophy “Kids do well if they can.” It recognizes that children do not lack the will to engage in appropriate behaviors, but instead, they lack the skills needed to do so.  CPS first teaches parents/caregivers to better understand the problems that are causing the concerning behaviors then provides them with strategies to help build the skills their children struggle to demonstrate in a variety of situations.. By utilizing this framework, parents/caregivers are able to work collaboratively with their children to develop long-term solutions to even the most challenging of behavioral concerns.
